Nine Years of Farming with the Premier Boulder Dispensary
Birthdays and anniversaries oftentimes cause people to look back upon years gone-by and reminisce. We at The Farm Boulder Dispensary consider ourselves the luckiest people in the world to work and live in an innovative industry in colorful Colorado.
Every smiling face brightening our doorway over the past nine years has made us want to say…”Thank You Boulder!” We are celebrating nine years of farming by sharing a few of our stories and memories from our longest-tenured Farmer veterans.
Reminiscing of The Farm’s Origins
From John Billings, Grower and ~9 Year Farmer Veteran:
2009 – The Beginning:
“I was working at The Renaissance Festival in the beginning of June 2009. I was working construction with my mentor and close friend of my family, Jim Price for his buddy James. James had 2 booths at the festival, so I was working up there for about a week before the whole thing started.
It was the second or third day of building and painting when a man named LJ appeared by the back-door smoking one of the largest cigars I’ve ever seen. I had zero idea that this guy would be my boss and mentor for the next several years. He was good friends of James and had worked in the music industry together for many years. LJ and Jim started talking and realized that they had a lot in common. After trying some/several of Jim’s herbs they discussed cannabis farming and working in the cannabis industry and a possible dream of a company like The Farm was born.
It was about 3 months later when I received a phone call from Jim out of the blue saying he had LJ at his house wanting a killer ounce of some of my best. I freaked out because I had some of the best chronic ever almost dried! I figured I’d get LJ the very best even if it had a little bounce to it. He called me out on the bud being a little damp, but it was too good to pass up. “That’s the smell of success!” “Jim will give you all the details welcome to The Family!” he said.
About 1 month later in October, I was planning on moving to Boulder and build-out the first cultivation facility in Boulder for The Farm. There were 5 of us that started The Farm. In the last 9 years I have had the opportunity to be a part of a company that I have helped build from the ground up.”
From Beverlee Ragsdale, Distribution Manager and ~8 Year Farmer Veteran:
Our First Warehouse:
We affectionately called it the PIT. It was at 30th and Pearl in an old run down building that was once home to an auto repair shop. It was dark and not so clean. The floors were stained from car grease; the ceiling tile was drooping from overhead (John and I use to joke about what day the ceiling might actually fall down while we were trimming); air conditioning in the trim room was non-existent; the power grid was nowhere near what we needed. But we made the best of it.
It was through LJ’s vision that in order to make a go of it in the business we needed a bigger and better grow facility and that is how Nautilus came about. We got the entire Nautilus facility up and running and passing inspections in under 47 days!!!…I guarantee that would not happen today.
Every Farmer wishes to extend our sincerest thanks to YOU, Boulder,
for making our jobs so enjoyable at our Boulder Dispensary!
We hope the next nine years are as memorable as our first nine!
